When Joe and I moved to Collington in 2012 we knew only one person living here, Pat Battin. This friendly community quickly changed that so we soon met Joan and Richard Zorza among many others. I was intrigued by the name Zorza. One of my favorite things we brought with us here is a large ceramic pot, given to my late husband, Joe Schiebel, by the potter, Rosemary Zorza. Joe Schiebel collaborated on some writing with Victor Zorza, Rosemary’s husband, as they shared an interest in politics and anti-Communism. It is not a common name so I asked Richard if he knew someone named Rosemary Zorza. He said, “Yes! She is my mother!” When Joan and Richard came to our cottage, he saw the pot and confirmed that the marks on the bottom showed it was made by Rosemary Zorza, his mother. Richard and Joan kindly gave me a small pitcher also made by his mother. I treasure them both.
